Back Pain physiotherapy in winnipeg

One-on-one physiotherapy for people dealing with acute back pain, persistent symptoms, and difficulty getting back to exercise, work, and the activities they enjoy.

Does this sound like you?

Are you dealing with...

  • Pain that keeps coming back when you exercise?

  • Back pain that has lasted for weeks or months?

  • Pain when bending, lifting, sitting or standing?

  • Difficulty returning to the gym or sport?

  • Fear that certain movements are damaging your back?

  • An old back injury that never seems to completely settle?

  • Pain that limits the activities you enjoy?

You don't necessarily need to rest or avoid everything that hurts. A thorough assessment can help identify what is contributing to your symptoms and the best course of action to get you back to doing what’s important to you.

How can physiotherapy help my back pain?

Physiotherapists are trained to assess and diagnose different types of back pain, along with exercises and other strategies that can be helpful for addressing different aspects of pain

Whether you are dealing with;

  • A first time acute episode of back pain

  • Nerve pain or “sciatic” back pain that runs down your leg

  • Persistent/chronic back pain

  • Back pain related to lifting or other physical activities

A thorough physiotherapy can help determine what type of back pain you have, effective short term management strategies and long term rehabilitation plans that involve exercise and education to provide lasting relief

How I approach back pain

My approach to back pain is focused on helping you understand your symptoms, identify the activities and movements that are currently difficult, followed by a plan that is tailored to your specific goals to help you reach them.

Assessment

Your first appointment includes a detailed history and physical assessment to understand your symptoms, goals, movement, strength and functional limitations.

Education

Understanding what may be contributing to your symptoms can help reduce fear and give you more confidence in managing your back pain and returning to valued activities you may be missing out on.

Exercise & Strength

Exercise is often an important part of recovery. Depending on your presentation, treatment may include; mobility work, core endurance exercises, graded exposure and targeted strengthening over time to help you reach your specific goals.

Hands-on Treatment

Manual therapy such as soft tissue treatments, low level laser therapy and other modalities can be effective for reducing pain sensitivity temporarily, which can be helpful alongside a structured exercise plan.

What might rehabilitation look like?

Depending on your assessment, treatment could include:

  • Strength training

  • Core and trunk strengthening

  • Hip and lower-body strengthening

  • Mobility exercises

  • Graded exposure to painful movements

  • Lifting technique and load management

  • Exercise modification

  • Return-to-running or sport-specific rehabilitation

  • Education around pain and recovery

  • Manual therapy when appropriate

With my background as both a physiotherapist and personal trainer, I place a strong emphasis on helping people build the strength and capacity they need to return to the physical activities they enjoy—not just focusing on short term pain relief.
